Holidays in Hill The Country

Lights, shopping and more to get you in the holiday spirit

With the holiday season drawing near, there’s no better place to seek out some holiday cheer than the Texas Hill Country. At Open Air Resorts, we have our own lineup of festive holiday plans, but we encourage all of our guests to join not only us, but also to explore and see all the fun the region has to offer. With decorative lights displays, shopping deals and sprees, and an endless supply of holiday themed activities, there’s something to get everyone in the holiday spirit.

Note: for many of these attractions, social distancing and mask-wearing is required. We encourage all of our guests to heed safety guidelines and practices.

The Marble Falls Walkway of Lights
Back for its 30th straight year, this stunning display out of Marble Falls features more than 2 million individual lights, sparkling and reflecting off the surface of Lake Marble Falls. The Walkway is free for all, though donations are welcome, and runs nightly from 6 p.m to 10 p.m. through Jan. 2, 2021. Take a stroll, surround yourself with the holiday spirit and keep an eye out on their Christmas page for scheduled theme nights!

Holidays in Gruene
Is there a better place to soak up the holidays than in the historic district of Gruene, Texas? (Besides with us, of course.) If so, we haven’t found it. Finish up your Christmas shopping list at one of the boutique shops, schedule a photo session with Gruene’s own take on Santa, Cowboy Kringle, and gaze upon a wondrous array of holiday decorations before dancing the night away in Texas’ oldest dance hall.

Christmas Wine Affair
Get a “taste” (pun intended) of how the Hill Country celebrates Christmas with the Christmas Wine Affair Tasting Passport. Running through December 20, the passport entitles you to discounted bottle prices, and more importantly complimentary wine tasting at over 40 Hill Country wineries (up to four per day), many of which are decorated with their own seasonal displays. With tickets starting at $45 for individuals and $65 for couples, this holiday deal is a steal worth splurging for. But spots are limited, so snag your tickets here!

San Antonio River Walk
Can you really have a list of Hill Country festivities without including the River Walk? Learn the history of this landmark with an interactive boat tour down the San Antonio River, one story below the city streets, all while taking in the magical view of all 100,000 lights strung across its banks.Hop off at one of the river’s ports and wander the winding walkways, stopping to eat at restaurants renowned for their cuisine or finish your shopping list at a local boutique store.

Santa’s Ranch
Our list concludes with perhaps Texas’ most famous drive-thru light display. Located just north of New Braunfels, this iconic destination features over 1.5 million lights spread over a mile of winding country roads, crafted and shaped into dazzling scenes and setups that truly encapsulate the magic of Christmas. Tickets start at $35 per vehicle, and the event runs all the way until Jan. 3, 2021.

The week of Christmas, December 20 through 25th, guests are encouraged to enjoy a safe, fun and festive way to celebrate the holidays with socially-distant special events at Open Air Resorts in Spicewood, including an RV site decoration contest, holiday treats and festive films.

Happy holidays to you and yours!
